Full lesson plan with checks for understanding built in
Build a complete lesson plan for teaching topic to grade_level_or_audience in a duration session.
Starting knowledge I can assume: prior_knowledge
Learning objective (what they should be able to DO by the end, not just 'understand'): learning_objective
Structure:
1. Hook (2-5 min): a concrete question, puzzle, or scenario that surfaces why this topic matters or creates a productive confusion, not a dry 'today we'll learn about X' opener.
2. Direct instruction segment: broken into chunks no longer than max_chunk_minutes minutes each, with a specific check-for-understanding question after EACH chunk (not just at the end), each check should be answerable in under 30 seconds so I can gauge the room quickly.
3. Guided practice: a task students do with support, specify exactly what I should be watching for as I circulate (the specific misconception or error pattern most students hit at this stage).
4. Independent practice or application task.
5. Closure: one question that reveals whether the objective was actually met, not just 'any questions?'
Also give me: the single most common misconception students bring to this topic, and where in the lesson it's most likely to surface.
