Reading comprehension question set that targets different cognitive levels
Generate reading comprehension questions for the passage below, deliberately spanning different cognitive levels, not all questions at the same shallow recall level.
Passage:
passage_text
Grade level: grade_level
Generate questions across these levels, labeled explicitly:
1. Literal recall (2 questions): answer is directly stated in the text, tests basic reading, not the point of the exercise but a necessary baseline.
2. Inference (2-3 questions): answer requires connecting information the text implies but doesn't state directly, specify what textual clues a student should use to arrive at the answer.
3. Analysis (2 questions): requires examining HOW the text achieves an effect (word choice, structure, perspective), not just what it says.
4. Evaluation/synthesis (1-2 questions): requires the student to form and support a judgment, or connect the passage to a broader idea, with a clear expectation that this must be text-supported, not just opinion.
For each inference and analysis question, note what a student might answer if they only skimmed rather than actually understood, so I can distinguish genuine comprehension from lucky guessing when grading.
