Spaced repetition flashcard generator from source material
Generate spaced-repetition flashcards from the source material below, following good flashcard-writing principles, not just chopping the text into question/answer pairs.
Source material:
source_material
Target number of cards: target_card_count
Rules for good cards:
1. Each card tests ONE atomic fact or concept, not a compound question requiring multiple separate pieces of recall (split compound facts into separate cards).
2. Avoid yes/no or true/false format, they're too easy to guess and don't build real recall.
3. Prefer cards that test understanding/application over pure definition recall where the material allows it (e.g. 'what would happen if X' rather than just 'define X'), unless the material is genuinely definitional (vocabulary, dates, formulas).
4. Avoid ambiguous phrasing where multiple different answers could be considered correct, a good card has one clear correct answer.
5. For any card testing a process or sequence, consider whether it should be broken into multiple cards (one per step) rather than one card asking to recall the whole sequence at once.
Output as a numbered list of Q/A pairs. After the list, flag any concept from the source material that's important but doesn't lend itself well to flashcard format (better suited to practice problems or essay questions instead), so I know the deck isn't providing false coverage.
