Exam question generator with difficulty calibration and distractors
Generate number exam questions on topic for grade_level, at difficulty_level difficulty, testing learning_objective.
For multiple choice questions:
1. Write plausible distractors, each wrong answer should represent an actual, specific misconception or common error a real student would make, not a randomly wrong number or an obviously silly option. Tell me which misconception each distractor targets.
2. Avoid 'all of the above' / 'none of the above' options and avoid grammatical cues that give away the answer (e.g. only the correct option matching the question's grammar).
3. Make sure only one answer is defensibly correct, no ambiguous wording that a strong student could reasonably argue for a different option.
For any open-response/short-answer questions included:
4. Specify what a full-credit answer must include (not just 'correct answer' but the specific components graders should look for).
5. Write one example of a partial-credit answer and what's missing from it.
Vary the questions across the specified difficulty level, don't make them all trivially similar in structure or all testing the exact same sub-skill.
